Why do yankee girls always have such long skirts? Shouldn't this interfere during a fight?

@SuperOniichan it's a symbol of defiance, like if the proper skirt length is around knee, I purposely make it super long and that's cool. Whatchu gonna do about it!? I'll beat yer ass! that sorta thing.

@SuperOniichan it had something to do with the past on sexual harassment towards women in the 60's/ 70's. The fashion just kinda stick from then and transitioned to modern era.

@SchultzD I really understand that in a gyaru skirt is much easier to fight than in an old maid's dress. And in fact, being sexy is a much bigger challenge to patriarchal inhibitions than that.

@Xystus In fact, the whole image of gyaru is built on a protest against the Japanese ideal of a woman as a chaste and innocent maiden. This quickly made gyaru a lust object and fetish for men, but that's another matter.

Well, it's like - @Xystus - said... it was (or IT IS) a symbol of defiance, the proper skirt length it's around the knees, not more long or short.

Of course in that time (trying to imagine myself being a woman around the '60 or '80) you just COULDN'T have a skirt that short or at least less than your knees without attracting or expose yourself from some unpleasant people or even thoughts around you... And at that time the laws about the sexual aggression or even sexual harassment were almost non-existent.

You were (at that time being a girl) trying to oppose against something, NOT EXPOSE against something.

@Reimans Do you think that in Japan 60-70s there was no hippie and provocative female fashion? Hell, even in my USSR women tried to be more free and sexy. Not to mention the fact that at that time there was a rise of the so-called pink films https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_film, which made the Yankees a synonym for violence and softcore. Sexual harassment is clearly not what they were worried about

@SuperOniichan You can't compare the traditional close-minded (and damaged) japan from that time with one of the winners "without limits" russia.

@Reimans Hah, in Soviet Russia, the first movie sex scene appeared in the 80s. Even when perestroika began and directors began to add sex to every new film, it was 10 times more chaste than any Japanese mainstream movie of the 60s or 70s.

@SuperOniichan, welp, you don't know a thing about your own country, so, of course, you can't understand the others. You even try to compare level of women's freedom in the SU and Japan by counting these countries' films' sex scenes.

@SchultzD So, you didn’t come up with anything smarter than suddenly blaming me for not knowing the realities of my own country (lol, what the hell was that supposed to mean?) and stating that if I brought a movie as an example, then I judge the question only on films. The funny thing is that this is said by a person who, it seems, still did not understand that the gyaru skirts were given as an example of more comfortable clothes in general, and not in the context of any cultural significance. There is less randomness in mobile gacha than in your argumentation.
