This manga sadly fails quitee hard because it completely fucks up one of the two characters.

While the male mc nails the kind of a scoundrel but likeable aspect, the female mc is just straight up a cunt who I hope dies.

I love how the story even tries to make them equivalent by showing both of them realising how experienced the other is.

You CANNOT equivalent his and her past. His is a tragic one. Hers is a bit tragic in a way but in many others way it is also not, she IS exactly the kind of demon people think her off as.

Her family was killed by humans, her hatred of humans was groomed by a fox demon into making her into a human eater to please him, he exploited her and afterwards made her think she could never return to a normal fox life she could only ever be a demon.

The male MC loses his family, is groomed by a man into becoming his pawn. He's forced into male prostitution then criminality and is constantly exploited, he believes he can't have a normal life.

They're both the exact same. If Koharu was as evil as you imagine Rokusute would already be dead. He constantly broke her rules but she made constant excuses to herself not to kill him because shes fond of him.

I think the human hate came from when she died while seeking to avenge her family. I think all the yokai in her village are vengeful spirits(which is why they gotta eat people to keep existing.) I don't think human hate was groomed into her, it's just a byproduct of her being what she is. But! I do think the psychopath groomed her to hunt in fucked up ways for his own amusement.

I agree with you. Both their stories mostly lack agency for similar reasons.

She hated humans sure, she probably would have killed them if she could but the grooming I meant is how she became a killer and her mentality of my future is just killing humans and nothing else was groomed into her. After all she did desire to have a family and it was all torn to shreds to her.
