The author wants us to think that they're so clever by bringing back characters and objects from over a hundred chapters ago, as though these seeds were planted from the very beginning. But we know better. Some of the more recent chapters are obvious scrambles to get it in under the deadline. Between the extra weird ones, and the ones that take an entire chapter to say what could have been completed in one sentence, it's obvious that the author is just making it up as they went along, even going so far as to crib from their own earlier chapters.
