lol I’m the same as Musugu. I won’t spend on my clothes, but if I see something that my SO looks good on, I don’t really mind spending on it.

It's nice buying clothes with others. I don't really get guys who get bored when shopping with their girlfriends.
It's a normal price for a nice coat. Those are among the more expensive pieces of clothing you buy, along with shoes. But with the latter, never skimp on the cost for things that separate you from the ground, as those affect your comfort the most. Your bed in particular.

That's a rather weak argument coming from someone who rejects keeping the same clothes for long. Other than the fact that once you get out of the low-range prices, durability isn't improved with more expensive stuff, unless it's a specific design feature. But then you're probably talking outdoors or sporting clothes.

I'm with Masugu on this one. Keeping something that has wear and tear but still functions is THE SHIT! Constantly replacing stuff is consumerist waste. Wear and tear is seen as a symbol of poor taste or poverty, but that's propaganda. Wear and Tear is a symbol of practicality.
Even more so because in this era of late-stage capitalism, even the expensive stuff is poor quality that's meant to be replaced. Her idea that expensive stuff will last longer is not reliably true.

I think it’s useful to remember that’s not always the case. It’s dependent on the shops, the brands, and the cultural trends.
As an example, I tend to get jeans for ~$35, and they tend to last me around 2 years if I take care of them. But I have a job that sometimes requires me to dress professionally, and sometimes requires me to dress for really messy work. For that messy work especially I bought a pair of $150 jeans… they are amazing. Beyond just being comfortable, they are more resistant to temperature changes, extremely hard to tear, highly resistant to stains from grease and oil, and overall can take all kinds of punishment. If I wore my normal jeans, they’d only last me less than 3 months in this job. But these pricey ones have lasted me 3 years.
It’s the same for a nice overcoat I have. It’s held up better than any of my cheaper quality coats, and genuinely fits me better too.
I could go on, but really I just wanted to say sometimes the older idea of price = quality can exist. If you’re careful about it. It probably also helps that (in regards to this manga) Japan has been in something of an economic time-capsule for ~35 years now. The stagnation of their economy has led to some interesting knock-on effects, including a cultural resistance to some of the “intentional enshitification” we deal with in the USA and Canada. Not to say it ISNT happening, just… it’s easier to picture Japan’s consumer market to be closer to what the USA and Canada were at in the early 2000’s. It’s an odd time for them.

Actually because of recent inflation issues, though its been better now, its closer 220 ^_^
Da fuq? I pay about the same/euro inflated equal price for mine, but I haven't managed to go through a single pair of jeans in less than 10 years.
The worst wear I get are chinos etc., where the pant leg openings get torn after a while (I struggle to get pants without slightly too long legs, and also just prefer them to be long), and even those usually last like 4-5 years.
On the general subject: I definitely use my stuff for possibly way to long... I finally updated my winter wear (gets to be -20 to -30°C here every year, and the padding no longer held shape, hurting insulation) after about 15-20 years, and was flabbergasted how much the sizes have changed. At first I kinda just thought I'd gotten fat, needing a 2XL, but then I grabbed my old winter coat from storage, it was L and still fit just as well as the new one. =P
