So I'm thinking that Chiaki hitched a ride for revenge. This bar owner guy was from a powerful family in the town and one night drove the car that killed Chiaki. Given his family, they probably wiped his slate clean by abusing power/connections and so the ghost girl was born to make sure he got his punishment. Our MC having gone to the grave and giving her something was picked as her "host" to help her get revenge since she probably couldn't leave the town/grave by herself and these 2 are the only ones we have heard that left.

In addition, we're probably talking about a single Chiaki split between a vengeful one and a protective one.

Interesting enough, the MC's friend seems to be aware as she's not doing anything yet. And the possible reason why is she knows the protective aspect is the only person who can turn the MC around, while also at the risk of being destroyed by the vengeful one.
