The deal with Death was probably for Chiaki to find out the identity of her killer, no more, no less.
The revenge wasn't part of it.

And if the killer is given a lease on life, it's hopefully possible for the MC to find life as well.

I think the problem was killing someone. I mean maybe killing the fat guy for revenge was okay but pushing it. But attacking the police was to much.
