A year ago when reading this manga and hoping for an anime to be able to listen to the koto being played, I had no idea that when the anime finally launches, I'd still be reading this manga and hoping for an anime to be able to listen to the koto being played. I've only watched the first 8 episodes of the anime, and maybe they had a full minute of koto music in total. What a wasted effort it was to hope for an anime adaptation if it was going to be like that. So, now when I read this chapter, I can't but simply accept the fact I'm never going to hear it with my ears.

Maybe I'll get around to watching the latest episodes, but my motivation has dwindled.

@Kaarme you know, you can find on youtube the Koto songs that were played in the manga, during my binge-read I usually played them in the background during a performance.

@Kaarme there is a limitation to the skill of the artist. If it is a already exist piece, then yes they can hire a good musician to play it for you. If it is a non-exist piece, then you will never hear it. Try searching for Ryuuseigun koto in Youtube, there are a few video of that.
Many of these music manga showcase the music as the same level of genius like Mozart or Beethoven which obviously is impossible. For example, when was the last time you listen to music and tear just swell up or a chill just run down your spine? Mine was La vie en rose (yes, it took my 25 years to discover that song...) and I cried while not knowing a single word of French.
If I can make something like that, I am not spending my time making a manga (unless you truly love writing manga and pay no mind to your music talent, no judging). So it is not that they don't want to do it because of time or money constraint but they just can't.
Disappointing but we can only take the few mins of music and leave it to our imagination...

@zek777 A fair and realistic point. Although at the same time I believe the anime studio doesn't quite trust koto music enough, either. Neither OP or ED are koto, and I believe little of the background music has been either. I'm sure there was some koto music there, but not much. I'd have also liked to hear longer performances uninterrupted as well. It's kind of weird in my subjective impressions shows like Angel Beats, which aren't about music at all, still seem to be more music heavy than some anime that are supposed to be all about music/bands, but end up featuring lots and lots of drama, comedy, slife of life, etc instead.

@Kag5n Yeah, I have seen people refer to those before, but I always felt they would be kind of external. I've watched some koto videos over the years, even before this manga started, so it's not like the instrument and style would have been totally unknown to me. It'd just be a different thing to grow to like the characters and then hear them develop and play, even if it's all fiction, as opposed to listening to random real people play the music. That's why I set myself up for a disappointment with the anime.

Also, why does she look so crazy? I get that she’s intense, but it’s like a wild beast being let loose on the koto.
