eh, yes, mc is pathetic, kind of the whole point of the first chapter, this is him being drawn into a world where he can live his life better, better circumstances or not isn't the important bit, it's the call to change, especially when this game sounds like it's pretty damn broken and he has no idea how reality will effect it,
and that's what all isekai has always been right, this is just a bit less subtle than some but at least a bit more justified with the game aspect being a fun focus and ridiculously dangerous and his character probably conversely made to be sad in the first place to justify his knowledge of the world and give him a reason to grow,
and it's also just a damn funny and game to get obsessed with. it's a fukin online single player game! and i have a feeling it's going to be far from the paradise that most other isekai are,
his knowledge about this seems to also be clearly quite complex and genuinely difficult to acquire, which, while ordinarily useless, it's then at least somewhat justified that he'll not do horrible here,
but it also strikes me as odd that you say that and also dislike the cousin, who has way more reason to be annoyed with her childhood fried and family when he's being like this and forgetting some important promise because of that, which is the actual shitty thing that the mc did and why him regretting it at the last moment does save his character a bit, he's just disillusioned
the cousin is great, just cause she still cares about him, and she's obviously only frustrated because of that, as he himself doesn't care back anymore as he's become selfish and depressed, i can assure you that she has a nice backstory where the princess thing is actually related to the mc , even though i've never read this before
