Pretty obvious the game devs added a mechanic for ruining a love confession or marriage. Because it is obvious they hate their players with passion.

if you confess to someone the demon lord appears, turns them into stone and laughs at you for trying to find love before defeating them then casts a spell to turn literally every other NPC that can possibly be married also into stone and then leaves. this completely fucks the game cause several of those NPCs also have important quests that can't be given while stone and normal "de-stone" items don't work. also the game autosaves as soon as you confess meaning all that happens is the cutscene starts the instant after you reload.
