I’m kinda surprised they at least took the time to make it nuance even though everything is exaggerated. And yeah, I’m pretty sure this is an alt-history Japan facing a refugee crisis like in ‘Ghost in the Shell’. They’ve also got out of their way to never specify any other country or culture.


Did we read the same thing? There was no mention of anything of the sort neither did the story make any blanket statements about refugees.

Nothing aggressive about being snarky, but sorry if it came out that way. ‘Por Favor’ can also be spanish and that poster wall was for people who were looking for their family members, nothing evil there.

While they didn’t specify cultures, they did explain how multiple countries are in war, also Rose is kinda coded as somewhere not latin but being Catholic doesn’t mean much considering Latin America isn’t the only place dominated by it.

Considering the names/locations so far this is fictional Japan.
Signs in Japanese, room with tatami mat, Benika's last name is Shirafune, the location of Rose's target in ch 1 was very Japanese name, etc.

Well, not necessarily. Even in fiction written in English, they don't usually swap out the language for a foreign one, so names might be the same. Also, aren't fictional modern places often based on the place you live?

I'm not sure what your point is.

Even if you replace the spoken/written language for audience, you don't replace building style (like tatami mat) or other things that point to it being particular location.
