Feels like a very jarring way to segue into a flashback, only tangentially related to what just happened. I mean, I guess the implication is that it was the goddess's fault, but still weird.

okay so Kiana also not the mastermind or at least unlikely to be. She just wanted to reach the peak of a homoerotic rivalry but someone went behind her back and killed her rival while she wasn't looking.

I'm guessing she'll be the focus for the next couple chapters but I have to wonder how Cecilia will win her over, because she doesn't have the combat capability.

They are probably also one of the Goddess chosen, just like Cecilia. Just like someone mentioned above, the Goddess is probably doing it all for shits and giggles. But even if she is not actively participating, she sure is doing nothing to actually help people. The power she give Cecilia is no exception. She just want to see some human struggle and fall into despair.

I think there might be two lines that lead to Cecilia winning over Kiana.

One (more likely), she's able to deduce who/what killed Reva. Giving that knowledge to Kiana could lead to gaining her allegiance, or at minimum her ongoing gratitude, as Reva was the only one other than Milfina who could actually go toe-to-toe with Kiana, something she holds as the highest importance in her quest to "have fun" in contests of strength. If Kiana finds out who stole her homoerotic rival-slash-love interest, I could see Kiana deciding that Cecilia is an alright person, and might cooperate with her.

The other, is if Kiana has a surprise sweet tooth and the otherworldly pastries and baked goods Cecilia can make end up making Kiana fall head over heels. I don't know if I'd appreciate that sort of outcome because it feels a bit non sequitur-ish, but we saw the pastries win over Reva, so there's a through-line there for strong individuals liking tasty baked goods (however infinitesimally flimsy and reaching it may be). We also had Cecilia bake stuff for Milfina already, so I'm even less inclined to think that'll circle back around once more with one of the Four Generals, but, "every thread is valid until it's not".

Otherwise...interesting that Reva was not killed by Kiana, just on its own face. Learning more and more about each of the Four Demons under Milfina is just fun narrative development on its own, but it does open up the continued strangeness behind what all is happening.
The hero of the goddess not dying to one of the Four, only for that proclamation to be made across the realms of humanity, underscores how suspect all of the information humanity & Cecilia (and thus us the readers) have regarding the invasion of the Demon King. We're still very much in the first portion of this story, so I expect a lot more questions before we get any real, definitive answers, though...so I kinda expect that alongside that, we'll be getting at least a few bouts of misdirection to keep things interesting.
Hopefully it all ties together and doesn't feel like things are pulled out of nowhere to justify weird reveals, but I'm enjoying this mounting sequence of oddities that betray the fact that really nothing is as it seemed.

Not sure it was nothing, actually.
It's another instance of what humanity thinks the demons are doing, and what actually happened. We already have Cecilia's suspicions that the Demon King isn't actually the violent & genocidal entity that she believed, what with the Demon Invasion all.

The fact that she seems to be controlled by some unknown force already raises questions about what the demons are doing waging a war of annihilation; and now we have the strongest Demon in Kiara stating that she is not the one to kill humanity's last hope in the Hero Reva--when all of humanity seems to have been told that it was her, or at least that is what was disseminated. So that's now two big instances of "things are not as they appeared", and it ties into Kiara being the next of the Four that Cecilia is seeking to win over.

The fact that Cecilia also had at least one interaction with Reva, means that there's a point of connection between the two of them. It's flimsy, but it's a shot, given how apparently important the Hero was to Kiara. So getting the backstory for Kiara's personality, along with the motivations that drive her in the larger sequence of events, and revealing a common link between her and our protagonist, was all accomplished in this chapter.

If anything this is more store in the “humanity is suspect” column. Their Goddess is seemingly all powerful, but fickle. The information they have is either incomplete or changed. Nothing here is what it seems.
