Tbh, when the letter exchange started, my original thought was that the series will be changing status quo(from "wants to see men" -> "coed village"). It would've been an easy way to double the cast and potential interactions, plus there's comedy potential from all preconcieved notions the two sides have about eachother and all the hijinks that would ensue from learning to train together. Shame it's ending.

man... romcom's dominance is just too powerful. This series took the risk and payed for it. Not even succesfull mangakas can make it without some romance thrown in there. Should've introduced some yuri in there instead of just bait, now it's too late. I respect the desire to keep the story romance-free for as long as possible, tho.
