this ''relationship'' doesn't even really exist for it to be kept afloat. As far as I remember, she confessed, but he didn't give her a reply, nor did they start dating, they're at best, friends, even if she wants more out of it.
You have to consider that for the entire series, he's been trying to look at things like any reasonable adult should, she was a minor until very recently, while he's way older than her, she has an entire life ahead, one that he thinks would be best spent without an older man by her side. And he's been trying since the start (sometimes half heartedly) to cut off their friendship since he believes it's for the best for the both of them, and him being the adult, he still decided to go through with it even if it hurts them.
If you saw a schoolgirl trying to get together with a older, working adult man in real life anyone would object to it to some extent.

What's Wrong with Starting Now? wasn't too bad. Not a ton of actual (real) plot but a nice story. I see why it has a 8.34 MangaDex rating from almost 1500 readers.
