Refrigerant is not the issue there are many common refrigerants, like ammonia, propane.

The roadblock to refrigeration is the ability to produce, compress and store gasses. The first of what we would call a real air compressor was in 1829, people had been experimenting knowing that the evaporation of liquids could drop temperatures such as evaporating solvents under vacuum since 1804 and some experiments earlier. It wasn't until the invention of the air compressor that the first working compressor based closed loop refrigeration cycle was made in 1834

In addition, idk if the translation was wrong, or the author was wrong, but refrigerant does not become fully liquid during cooling or compression in most cases and he just needs an expansion valve (small hole) to turn the liquid into really cold gas
If hes using water magic... wouldnt the refrigerant used be water? Which seems kinda useless given the temperature ranges water is gas at, not even sure with some vacuum it can be gas at useful temperatures.

Seems his refrigerator works with a gas and a liquid phase, starting on liquid otherwise his water magic would be making gas. Though at that point you might be able to skimp and just vaporize the liquid and then send it out to the atmosphere and make more liquid and avoid compressing it to reuse it.

If water magic can make other liquids, isn't that already wayyyyyyy more busted than some janky refrigerator?

Also... "Wind magic makes the released heat work it way inside the refrigerator" Is literally the opposite of what you want.

There might be some issues with translation or the guy who is adapting it to manga... probably got glossed over pretty hard in the original novel

This makes me imagine an isekai where the whole point is that mc just wants to make a sandwich or some shit. Does that already exist?
I feel like it has to, right? It's such a cliche now that surely there's at least a one-shot of it.

that is a very overdone thing to do in manga. "Mayonnaise!"
couldn't we at least see something else than that one.

anyway it has been long time ago it did update. thanks for yer work.
personally i didn't see this be done much, i remember watching that isekai about a group of genius kids who were earth's strongest/smartest, that was my first isekai that had the mayo sub plot and only one too... maybe slime and some other Kingdome-building isekai? but that one was the only one the gave that much importance and drama to freaking mayo lol :kek:

edit: just read that it was on hiatus because they wanted to follow the Ln instead of Wn, but is ther a difference?

Idk about propane, but isn't ammonia extremely dangerous to use as a refrigerant? The kind of refrigerant used can be extremely important because of the possibility of leakage whether during assembling, from rough handling (they are on a carriage which is not exactly a smooth ride), or from everyday wear and tear. Many refrigerants are toxic if inhaled or if it gets on your skin, so it's not so much whether or not it's possible that he got or made a refrigerant but rather that he got or made an undisclosed refrigerant while riding a carriage and somehow made a well sealed refrigeration system on his first try.

The author didn't even bother justifying him having not just the knowledge but the experience by saying he was an engineer or a chemist in his past life or even just that he happened to work in a factory where they made refrigerators, and he didn't explain anything about magic before this point either. Did he materialize the entire refrigerator pre-assembled all in one piece like he made those knives, or did he have to assemble it and make the glues and seals one by one? It just feels like he pulled internet knowledge out of his ass and made magic fill in the gaps in his knowledge like we've seen a million times from isekai slop that copied better written stories without doing any creative thinking or rigorous experimentation or testing. It's not like we don't expect it, this is isekai slop after all, but it's still wearing thin on my suspension of disbelief.
Isekai slop author needs to prove Japanese superiority, he is going to be making ramen/ice cream in the next five chapters, I bet

And naturally no one has thought to mix ice and salt to create ice cream without refrigeration in this European style world with ice magic and milk readily available :thonk:

How a magical compressor doesnt consume much mana...?
Fridges and freezers generally don't take much electricity because they only cool a relatively small insulated box, AC compressors are much more powerful because they need to run for longer and cool down an entire room. They're both the same thing but use different strength motors, I think you're confusing the power draw of an AC compressor with that of a fridge compressor.
This always comes up when making magical version of household appliances but like, which method is more suited? Magic Stones or..... enchantment? carving? I forgot what it's called since it's been a while. 😢
It depends on the magic system but I've always preferred the ones where you can put in an amount of mana to keep it running for a certain amount of time.

Dangerous or not, you can make it out of your pee so it's probably what he used.
