The dad's brain cells finally have woken up from their coma, also seems like the current Emperor seems like the only "decent" one they've had in decades.

The previous emperor is a weak willed puppet for his mother and a pedophile, that's why most people heap a lot of scorns on him. But overall his rule was not that terrible for the common people. There were no mention of devastation by natural or man made disasters. The grand empress dowager and his son even managed to abolished slavery which is a net positive thing.

Maybe i need to go back and read this volume of the light novel because I don’t really understand a lot of the character motivations.

Can anyone help explain

1. Why would the former emperor disown his child, but then 18 years later, acknowledge her lineage, and ask Shishou to marry her?

2. Shishou. What is his whole deal?
I don’t understand anything he’s done or why. Why did he marry the emperor’s daughter, and then Shenmei? Why is he trying to overthrow the roal family?
For Shenmei? What even is his role? It feels like Shenmei is behind everything. WHY is he so loyal to Shenmei??? Does he have any true loyalty, or is he just a wet blanket that does what he’s told?

3.Suirei played such an important role, but I never really understood why she did it either? Just because Shenmei told her to? Does she not feel angry about how both families have treated her?

4. Is Shenmei just lowkey a cartoon villain?

Thanks for the chapter.

He was weak and under his mom's thumb and his mom probably didn't like that specific girl having her son's child or whatever other reason.

I don't read LN but from what I understand in this chapter and raw
1. Her mother is the one who disowned her, he can't disobey

Since the rest might be spoiler imma hide it
2. Shenmei is the one who want to overthrow royal family after feeling humiliated because not choosen by emperor. Shishou wish to free Shenmei so he agree to married former emperor daughter. I'm not fully understand the raw but I think he might feeling guilty for not "saving" her before she changed. They're formerly betrothed before taken as consort, that's why he didn't try to stop her.

3. What can she do? She's alone, her father can't even help her. Plus this whole plan basically isn't supporting Shenmei but ruining her instead, that's why Loulan did all that, to sabotage her plan. They all planning for the Shi clan destruction, falsely complying into Shenmei plan but also creating their own.

4. Yes
