So in the end he is just a really selfish and self-centered person that relies on others to interact with people for him. I get that he understands its a problem but the fact hes gone this long without so much as a step for improvement shows how self-centered he is in the end. I really hope he isn't the romantic ML but with how Mao keeps looking at him thats just not going to happen. Shes got shit taste in men and a shitty personality with how people that want to get close find shes so closed off at times so i guess they're perfect for each other in the end.

Wuaahh.... just eat the damn fish xP
People who say "I should apologize later" usually forget to do it... In short, this guy is hard to like, I wonder if that's the author's intention.

>"I wish my dad would pay attention to me..."
>immediately notices he's not eating his onions
>tells him not to be picky and eat healthier

@Serenata I dunno. So he comes back home because he was asked to and they basically nag him and don't remember what food he hates, and that's probably pretty much how they deal with him all the time, and he should apologize. Sure, whatever.
Sure, yeah, he's not smooth. But he's a high school kid, of course he's not smooth, duh. They're adults. His parents. And they're not bothering to have a clue. Doesn't seem like they've ever bothered to try to get one.

Its obviously a step-parent situation which happened before the loss of his brother and the question of whether or not he actually still lived with them at the time comes up. It doesn't seem like he did but he still gets along with the step-brother somewhat. As to why they forget what he can eat i'm pretty sure its because he holes himself up and ignores a lot just for music much like they explained in previous chapters. I doubt he even goes back home at all even when he knows theres food if he's hungry especially since the loss of his brother since he was the one that would smooth things over for him. I'm not saying his parents aren't at fault a little but when they're not even asking much and let him live alone as long as he continues education it just shows how crappy his personality really is in the end.

@Purplelibraryguy I think the father remarried, hence why he has a step brother, so it's no wonder she doesn't know what he likes, inviting him what's very kind considering he just keeps ignoring them, the step brother had to go as far as going directly to his house so he would respond, and actually he is in college now (and he wants to drop it)... Of course I don't know all the details, I bet he feels like with his father taking care of the kid and 2 "strangers" he doesn't belong there anymore but hey, he could if he just tried to get along, he doesn't have to live with them but having a family to rely on it's important. But you gotta do your part.

If Yokiko joins the band, it's gonna be a bloodbath.

And yeah, I understand where he's coming from: his step mother doesn't know what he likes or not, Chiaki isn't there anymore. His stepbrother is nice but is much younger and has no blood relation to him... his father is never at home. It's understandable he feels awkward and like a stranger in that home. Even more-so that his father probably looks down on his music career and doesn't really know how to interact with him, since he basically didn't raise him and has always been a distant father that piled up his expectations on Chiaki (which led Chiaki to run away).

So, I think it's normal he takes his distances with his "family".

I'm not sure why people are hating all the characters here so much.

Like the guy's dad got remarried so things at home are awkward and then his brother dies? Its not surprising that he's weird.

@Purplelibraryguy I believe he's actually at university, but still awkward uni students aren't exactly rare either.

Long-hair dude is probably my favorite character. He's relatable, because he's down to earth and while he may not be the best (far from it) he's still actively trying and wants to get better. Also because I'm like him and genuinely can't eat most foods.
