Pretty rude, those whispering customers. There could be any number of reasons for a person to appear moody, even if they normally weren't. And even if they were at a cake buffet. They could be preoccupied with something important, but would still come with their significant other to the place. Their cake-loving mother could have recently died, but they are trying to get over it, yet it doesn't happen overnight. If the partner doesn't mind, why do those strangers need to mind?

I dunno man, it's normal to try and figure out the world around you based on available data. Sure, there's all kinds of stuff that could cause someone to appear moody, but there's no evidence of them, so there's no reason to consider them, unless your goal is to render the entire question pointless.

What's rude is saying shit out loud at all, but especially where the person in question can hear you.

I say all that, but on the flip side, if you don't have evidence of your conclusions, you should seriously hesitate in making decisions based on them.
