This chapter made Kunitada seem like a slippery opportunist. Still, that can't be completely true because after five years, he still hasn't made particular progress in hierarchy. So, he's not really using his skill to maximise his value in the eyes of superiors and important clients, to get promoted as soon as possible. Although naturally it's also possible he simply doesn't have the skills for it, even if he can read emotions. Maybe he really simply wants to have an easier life.
