i think its because they named tapirs after baku because they fit the "medium-sized quadrupedal with a big snout/trunk" part. then in more modern times, artists started drawing baku looking a lot like malayan tapirs. tapirs do look weird enough, and they're easier to draw than a chimera thing.

the funny part is this has pretty good procedures for being sick. Don't bring it into the workplace (makes eye contact with the other americans, nods wearily. I know.), treat the symptoms so your body can recover better, rest, and wait for your fever to fully reduce.
