He’s right… sales are “saved money” only if you were already going to buy the things even at the original price. Otherwise, it’s purely extra spending. XD
Like, if you have to choose between bananas a 1$ per lb, or 0.69$… buying the second is saving 31 cents.
I you walk next to fancy cheese you never eat, and buy it cause it‘s 50% off at 5$ instead of 10$, then you just spent 5$ more than you had budgeted… and didn’t actually save anything.

Also, TBF, there’s nothing wrong with buying fancy things you never usually get to buy when they are on sales… but it’s when you feel pressured to do it that it’s bad. It’s a very fine line between taking advantage of sales, and sales taking advantage of you.
