i wonder whats gonna happen now, i know he doesnt wanna get drawn into some nobles conflict but being affiliated with a noble house just seems like extra work, if the dude is your friend you dont need to be a personal painter to produce paintings for him...

He needs the backing as a security, before it was a friendly offer now due to these incidents for his protection he needs to be employed by a noble or others will try to snatch him like the dio's did.

The way he felt about not wanting to sell his paintings, reminded me of what an artist once said about the time when she took pottery class. The class had a custom of asking the students to break their failed works at the end of the year. To make them less attach to their own works. Instead of leaving them by the dumpster with the sign "Free to a good home." After all, ones have to monetize their arts to make a living.

Oh no. Page 22 has the terrible song Temporary Secretary stuck in my head.

This has been a pretty regularly above-average isekai up until now, but the thing about his paintings kinda got to me.

It IS daunting for artists to think you'll have to sell the things you love doing in order to make a living or whatever. Being able to do art freely is a wonderful thing, it can relieve stress tremendously. But the moment you start thinking it could become a job, you start thinking of how it's not just about the joy anymore, it's about being held to the standards of others, it's about selling and marketing, a completely different set of skills from merely doing your art.

This feels more genuine on the part of the artist than anything else does far in the story. I guess it was kinda there from the start, but this is much more explicit and it deepens this protagonist's character.

That fits about everything really. I always say that what all I want for my job, that I get paid for, is to be paid enough to live and to fund my hobbies and not hate what I do at the end of the day, and have time at the end of the day. Its why I like being a small cog in a big company. (It's a pretty tall order, I know). And its unlikely that I would want my hobbies to be something that I need to monetize, because then it would become work and no longer be fun and instead would become my life. Always trying to figure out how to make the next sale, the next product, the next video, etc. Unless I won the lottery of course, but it still wouldn't be work at that point.

Will you fail with me? First time hearing this line. His speech sounds more like a marriage proposal than anything else.
Literally, sounds like a romcom I saw once, at the end the guy says to the girl, "so what do you think, will you be broke and miserable with me?" or something like that.

Every time I see the parents-flashback, I just keep thinking about how they might've underestimated their kid. There's a huge difference between the wants of a child that changes every Thursday, and the MC's passionate dedication to the craft. When you're actually able to sit your ass down and practice those skills to such an extent, when you actually prove that "it's not just a passing fancy" and that you're dedicated to it -- your future is safer than so many other people who even in their 40s have no idea wtf they're gonna do tomorrow.

Also, I found it funny that the parents got excited that the MC "chose the law-department". If they meant being a lawyer, then ho-ly shit is it an overly saturated, unsafe job market. I wouldn't knock it off at being worse than being a painter.
