It does remind me a bit of the Reimer Twins Case. For those who don’t know - in 1965, a pair of twin boys in Winnipeg were born, only for one of the boys to have his penis injured during a botched circumcision (both had phimosis, no antisemitic shit please). The twins’ parents went to a psychologist for advice, who happened to be a big proponent of the theory of gender neutrality - the idea that gender identity is learned from early childhood and that, in theory, a person raised as one gender should identify as that gender. Seeing as penis reconstruction was difficult at the time, he suggested that Bruce Reimer - the twin who had the bad circumcision - get gender reconstruction surgery and be raised as a girl named Brenda. Coincidentally, Bruce’s twin brother Brian could be used as a control, to see if the gender neutrality theory held any weight.

Unfortunately, the results of that were even worse than in the manga. In order to try and reinforce “traditional” gender behaviors, the psychologist frequently had the twins do “childhood sexual rehearsal play”, which I will not recount here because it was already unsettling enough to write the prior paragraph. By the time that Bruce/Brenda was 13, he was experiencing suicidal depression and his parents decided to opt out of the experiment, telling him that he was born male. From then he detransitioned into a male, took on the name David, and kept low about the whole thing until 1997 when he told his story in order to prevent future psychologists from trying something like that.

But yeah, even in this case it still shows a big truth of the world - adults trying to force a gender identity on a child never ends well. It’s different from trans expression, in which the child wants to express that gender identity themselves.

looking on mangaupdates most of the mangaka's work is hentai so doing some trainwreck stuff is not super surprising. Hopefully the manga series they've been doing for the last 3 years has shown they maybe can do stories where the drama feels less upsetting in the last 10 years.

Oh, and why is that the case?
People do terrible things with technologies made to make people lives better all the time.
There is probably not a single piece of technology that hasn't been used for evil at some point, to hurt someone or even ruin their lives.
This technology would help a LOT of people, and as any technology, there would be a few psychos that would use it for evil.
It's the job of the justice system to stop it from being missused in those ways, and unlike with other technology like knives, which can be used in a quick moment without anyone being able to stop it, this kind of technology can be properly supervised and restrict its use so it can only be accessed by those that need it.
Of course, there will be countries where the technology won't be supervised, in the same way that there are countries where r*pe is pretty much legal, but if we'll bring up those countries, then there would be a LOT of terrible things that could be done without even involving this technology.

I am not gonna lie, i loved Satomi when she was introduced. She looked like the stereotypical girlfriend with the level head that is the voice of reason in this isekai world.
To have her become the poster girl for bad decision-making feels like a brilliant idea because she had it coming.
She made a decision that impacted her whole life for fame and greed essentially.
I love how the author kind of hints that she is still holding on to that position she had and thinks of herself as a the MC's girlfriend.

I said it a while ago that I think Satomi thought she could either:
1) Have a gay relationship with the MC during her sports career;
2) Hope that the MC is such a lost case that they will never find a girlfriend until Satomi peaks and she has to retire so that she can change her gender again(they said that it was possible) and be with the MC.
3) She hopes to be the MC's best friend and basically keep him from other girls until Satomi is good and ready to be a girl again.

What I don't understand is why is Satomi, until now, sabotaging her own plans by helping tje MC get with this other rival.

Again, I would have more respect for Satomi if she was this devious and sabotaged the MC's relationships for herself. But she is doing the exact opposite.
