@Georg-Prime Wait, it's even worse in the main story? Well I guess seeing how he looked in that gives an indication there. Still, I thought this would be the pinnacle of it since he's tortured into confessing.
Great that they didn't hold back on that too. They didn't show anything too graphic but the impression given from it all really did give the forced confession angle that was a real thing in reality too.

First he gets betrayed by a bunch of people, several times, but the ones who've been keeping him prisonner have really been the worse: they beat him up with tools too, and it's more implied than shown but (not only clearly they didn't feed him well if at all), the reason why they even kept him is to... skin him alive. Yeah. They've been cutting his scaled skin on a regular basis for who knows how long taking advantage of his regeneration ability, to make fire/heating artifacts and sell them. Dude is basically traumatised in all kind of ways.

At this point I'm amazed he can act fine normally. It really says how messed up he can be sometimes when you have that whole scene where he's apologising to Betty for having set the curtains on fire again from one of his nightmares, still trying to put a smile on his face for her despite how he must have been feeling.

and yep, and let's just say that he was at least lucky for the ones who found him were two witches specialised in healing magic, clearly it's going to take time and efforts but we'll see that Vivian and Betty are going to help him so he can live normally by day, and we already know that at night he has terrible nightmares and is usually only able to sleep thanks to Betty's special pillow - _{he was able to sleep without in Sauro's arms though ( ͡• ͜ʖ ͡• )}
Anyway yeah, I've said it before but same I'm amazed he can even smile the way he does, let alone still be kind and trusting, it's like Sauro said he's so strong, if he wasn't a bit of a perv he'd be a saint ^^"

Was the pillow thing mentioned before?
Also the Sauro part isn't as surprising considering how close they were before. And damn if Arsenio isn't too kind for everything he's gone through. It warped his own self worth yet he still has a heart warm enough that the salamander would actual go back to him, and Sauro knew what he was like so much that he actual began to see past the teachings of his country after a few encounters.

yes it was, I don't remember which chapter it was but Betty and Arsenio explained that to Rei (who then took advantage of Arsenio's magic-pillow-induced super deep sleep to sleep with him and realized that Betty was doing that too in her cat form if you remember?).
