It's kind of a mirror to Eminence in Shadow cause everything goes horribly wrong, but somehow works out. Takes a good few chapters to start coming together so that things make sense why it happened that way, but I'd say it's dark humor more than anything. Already has an anime so you can skip waiting if you like. There will be much suffering for him as well in many ways. The story is off on a hard spot. Dense protagonists are already rather easily on the irritable end of the scale. And to top it off, this particular one is clearly an idiot to a certain degree.
He has multiple negative traits slapped to him right now. And in a starting setting like this, his solution to being punched is to strike back with a knife to the mouth while clearly ignoring both the initial selling pitch that he received of the game of ultra realism, and the in game clear warnings that defines his ass as being inside what appears to be a low fantasy setting?
I know the tag said "comedy" but at this point I'd rather see the tags "psychological", "tragedy" and "gore" because the intro just makes me want to see him deal with his stupidity and eat the consequences, because it's going to be rough to build up from there and make him actually likeable.
Ah... Not sure how this happened. The file regressed itself to the earlier save... Will be fixed in a few minutes after I redraw it again...The tag on final page is 親友殺し (read, and also lit.: Best Friend Killer).
The translation is quite questionable. The story is not hooking me so I'm dropping it anyway but just leaving it here for people who care about translation accuracy and such.
Did someone spat on your cereal this morning?really bad. translation is nonsense, and terrible fonts. don't try again
It's ok. Even the best people started from somewhere. As long as you're willing to learn and improve. I can see that you did put in some efforts and that's good.Ah... Not sure how this happened. The translation is done with my own knowledge and with the help of dictionaries (my knowledge is still quite limited when it comes to kanji)... And I do miss a lot of things, so, yeah.
just saying, i though he did that too, but on closer inspection, he just pushed the guy. the knife was something that the guy picked up with an apple to eat. so basically the guy picks up an apple with a knife, the already stressed MC try to get back at him by just pushing, the guy fall head first into the knife he was holding and dies... i swear to god this level of ridiculous death reminds me of final destination...his solution to being punched is to strike back with a knife to the mouth
even now there are ton of games that has a selling pitch of being realistic (even tho its mainly graphics), imagine in this manga, there's a really high chance he thought it was just the graphics, hell he even said that he wanted to see the monster graphics, he wouldn't have thought it was... well... everything... literally.while clearly ignoring both the initial selling pitch that he received of the game of ultra realism
The story explicitly state that the VR games also replicates sensation like touch.just saying, i though he did that too, but on closer inspection, he just pushed the guy. the knife was something that the guy picked up with an apple to eat. so basically the guy picks up an apple with a knife, the already stressed MC try to get back at him by just pushing, the guy fall head first into the knife he was holding and dies... i swear to god this level of ridiculous death reminds me of final destination...

sigh just because it replicates the touch doesnt mean that the NPCs would have an AI so advanced that it perfectly replicates a human brain and that he could kill an NPC in this way... its not so much brain rot, but expecting something that's perfectly reasonable to expect, and then getting fucked over a stupid decision... it's literally like you want to play a nice generic Dating Simulator and then you picked DDLC, but you never heard of itThe story explicitly state that the VR games also replicates sensation like touch.
I don't think you should give him the benefit of the doubt in regards to just wanting graphics. This is just some brain rot where the author wants the MC to be a bit dunce. Consider how often we see Dense protagonists in Japanese novels or manga.
Not a proper argument.sigh just because it replicates the touch doesnt mean that the NPCs would have an AI so advanced that it perfectly replicates a human brain and that he could kill an NPC in this way... its not so much brain rot, but expecting something that's perfectly reasonable to expect, and then getting fucked over a stupid decision... it's literally like you want to play a nice generic Dating Simulator and then you picked DDLC, but you never heard of it
ok look, im just giving MC the benefit of the doubt cuz his day was shit, and he just wanted to relax by buying his favorite RPG and play it, but he didnt get it and just have this random game that he never heard about shoved into him. so im not saying its not brain rot at all, but again, his day was shit, so not the best decisions are made...Not a proper argument.
The shopkeep told him straight up what kind of game he was getting involved with.
If the shopkeep told you "Hey, I have this psychological horror game to give you" and gave you DDLC, then that would be accurate.
So yes, this is his own fault for not being intelligent enough to understand what genre he was playing.
Plus if I recall right, they also explain that in the game it also replicates the sensation of touch and smell..
And you can't tell me he didn't listen to her because he was furious, he repeats her words on page 24.
Furthermore, on page 1 it details that the game does things that normally shouldn't. Replicating all five senses.
On page 28, he fell and clearly felt the pain on the back of his head.
And on the dive chair we clearly see he doesn't hold any controllers either.
Everything indicates that any normal human being with enough common sense would have tons of red flags in their head if they felt pain, touch, in a game and you shouldn't. If he didn't react to that then perhaps its standard fare for games at this point.
Either way on page 29 he acknowledges the sensation of pain being reproduced. So by now he understands that this replication is going very strong on the whole Realism.
So from here on, we have established. The MC understands the game genre is Hyper Realism to Extreme Degree. And he understands that his senses are dangerously replicated but seems okay with it.
So yes, I reiterate. It is Brain Rot. The MC is a dunce who doesn't think about consequences. It's the sort of thing you see when people attack the "You are Maidenless" NPC in Elden Ring, and they were told ahead of time that the game is both tough, intended for a hard core audience and that they will die.
And then proceed to wonder why the NPC, after having warned them repeatedly that they will regret attacking him, suddenly hits back and is a tough enemy.
Absolute Brain Rot. And again, he is supposedly an experienced gamer. He has no excuse, this is Game Journalist stupid.
