I hope you eventually get a quality checker or a proofreader or something. There's a lot of stuff here that feels like you just copied it directly from the MTL without checking it (there's a difference between using a MTL to do a lot of the translation work while editing and adjusting the results to make sense, and just copy/pasting the MTL results and typesetting them), and it could really use some additional eyes on it to make sure things actually make sense. For example, they keep talking about "our side" in a way that makes no sense given the context, and it's honestly just confusing.

I'm confused on the "our side" thing too. It seems to be what's actually said though. I took a look at the raw and it says the same thing.

my guess is that by "this/our side", the forgers mean something akin to nobility or noble status, and they're baiting him with being recognized as a "true court blacksmith" (like them) only if he continues to do chores. It's not explained at all tbh.

Based on your explanation and going off the assumption that the whole "side" thing refers to being a "true blacksmith" like them, the "put in someone new" from the first passage probably means something along the lines of "we'll hire someone new [to do the chores and odd jobs]". Basically, it's them saying "spend another year dealing with the chores, and then we'll promote you to being a true blacksmith, and we'll hire someone else to replace you as our errand boy".

Either way, that's what I mean by them getting a QC. Between the two of us, you and I have managed to decipher that into something sensible, but only one of us actually knows what the original Japanese actually says. If this group could just get someone to look over the text and help figure out a better english context, it'd help improve things drastically.
