Am I the only one who thinks Gilbert's character was meant to represent people who criticized this story because they found the baby talk uncomfortable? Idk but to me it's coming off like the author wanted to get back at those people so they made a character who also was weirded out by the baby talk and made him lazy, misogynistic, a coward, a pervert, and stupid. And then they had everyone beat him up, and had him fired, penniless, and effectively homeless.
Just to be clear I am absolutely not defending Gillbert. He's terrible and disgusting and deserved his comeuppance.
But his existence as a character felt sudden, forced, and a little power trippy and I'm wondering if it was an intentional jab at those who don't like Calliope. Idk I could be reading too much into this though.
