I think there's some fairly specific ways you're supposed to write letters in Japan. Good guideline for an awkward novelist perhaps? I mean, there are specific ways of writing letters here too but it's not like I remember those either, only reason to write letters when I was a kid was if you had a pen pal or something. Now we all just text in more or less real time anyway.
