Thank you for the chapter.
That was pretty anticlimactic. Like I get it, but it still feels off. There wasn't really a power struggle like at all anywhere this chapter. In terms of strength Rei completely overwhelmed (both Well and the supposed prodigy on imperial side) that latter due to Elena and the former he didn't even give a passing care about. I thought the felt with Well was going to resume (like he was going to go full Clone Wars Maul), but that was nothing. Then when Rei met up with Elena, it was just immediately over. It's somewhat refreshing that the antagonist recognized they didn't have a chance and used any method to escape, but I feel so off about the main cast taking him at face value SO fast. Like it didn't feel like there was any back and forth or conflict here. If I were the main cast I see no reason to believe such a BS out of pocket claim in the first place. Yet they didn't even question it (one obvious question to me is that if the guy had the power to turn the soldiers into suicide bombers why doesn't he just do it and take their target out and win the war? There were none around to harm him when he made the bluff). Something like the antagonist noticing the demon soldier coming and activating a magic he specifically put on that demon to support the bluff, would've been nice. Because we could have first gotten some not brain dead distrust of the guy that's cornered probably saying anything to save himself AND it could have shown how far in advance he plans (which the plot keeps telling us but has yet to really show; like a basic assessment that Rei is pretty freaking strong and he can't handle both him and Elena doesn't make him out to be a tactical genius; really so far he's just been shown to be not completely incompetent).
The ambush was nice, but like in terms of our main character and even just the actually named characters it's basically done nothing. It wasn't super interesting watching them breeze through what's supposed to have been a major upset and just give up because they'll believe a cornered enemy on whatever lie they make up.
