@apricotsoda changes in apparent height are fairly common in manga and are usually just written off as a matter of perspective in the scene...as for the scythe, if I remember correctly, in addition to being weightless to it's bearer, it's also able to change size to a limited degree at the user's will via magic ...and if I'm not remembering correctly, there's still the fact that there were two different versions of this released for a while, so you might have read the other one
