@LysandersTreason - Completely agree. Moreover his insistence on the binding contract magic just makes them significantly MORE suspicious of him, and they're freaking nobles. They can just wait until they get back to town and say " Oh by the way, have the royal poisoner sent up. They need to end that guy so I never have to worry about saying anything about him ever again. "

Most are upset with Rei right now, but wait till they see what kind of stunt the affably friendly slit-eyed thief guy pulls later on...

I understand that you're frustrated with group delays. However, when expressing that displeasure, using sexual slurs is not permissible.

Please consider how to express your displeasure more constructively in the future and review our rules here: https://mangadex.org/rules

Thanks,

Zeph

Champion scans had over 3 weeks delay on some of the chapters published on mangadex, but I imagine that they stopped uploading chapters here with that delay (as it always shows when you check the manga chapters) coz they get a lot of hate from readers. They might have made a deal with Lymus in that regard.
I kept visiting CS page a lot, but i stopped bothering going there anymore. They are terribly inconsistent with releases.

@Yamibi "inconsistent" is putting it mildly, but at least it's got quality. imagine if it's 3-week delays for a hackjob

@LysandersTreason considering that he was practically forced to take the job under shady conditions and that his griffon is product of sorcery then he has a reason to bind them in a contract of he dont want to be find out specially by nobles, and seeing how the princess subordinates are reacting to everything specially the knight and the thief he has a good reason to not thrust them at all, also your superman analogy is quite off the mark, because we are talking about trust issues here, he did the same to milane party and their willingness to undergo the pact make him gain trust in them in the long run, but this guys are just too hostile to him since the beginning so there is no reason to trust them with something that can potentially make him more problems later.

Right, see this is the thing. With the Milena party he did the same thing, as you say, and then they became good friends. But it should have made that party EXTREMELY distrustful of him! Like he literally threatened to kill them if they refused the contract. I understand why HE might feel chummy toward THEM, but THEY should definitely consider him an evil person.

Like imagine that Superman and Jimmy Olsen are trapped in an airplane that's about to crash and Superman is like "okay now Jimmy, I can save us, but I'll have to reveal a secret. You have to keep this secret. If you tell anyone, I'll rip your head off. If you don't agree to my terms, I'll let this plane crash and you'll die." That's basically precisely what Rei did. That is not being nice. He could have just said "hey look, my griffon is rare and has special abilities. on your honor, please swear not to tell anyone" and they would have. He didn't even NEED to do the contract with the group.

And then what's worse is that he then accepts to do the contract LATER, after he shows them, defeating the purpose of asking for the contract at all. "You have to swear a contract of secrecy before I show you this, because I can't trust your word." "Okay, well let's wait until later to do the contract and show me your secret first." "Okay, that sounds good, I'll trust your word on that."

@LysandersTreason well for one he was never portrayed as a "nice person", up until now he pays good with good and evil with evil to everyone equally putting his own benefit and well being first, he has no reason to trust no one at first and he only could get his way with set being a rare monster in limited instances considering that currently there is no limit in the number of abilities he can get and can get fishy real soon, also you have to remember what kind of word is that, he was attacked for no real reason just after registering in the guild and just in the middle of a subjugation quest, so he has plenty reasons to be aware of people specially for the princess bodyguards that have been really hostile since the beginning in a quest that he was practically forced to take under really suspicious terms.
this is where your superman analogy in this case fails, he has reasons to trust jimmy because he knows him and there is no reason for death treat (if it was lex tough ), same in rey's case, he knows nothing of these people and you spec him to appeal to honor to them? not very reasonable, this is why milane can be friend with him, because she knows what kind of world she lives and that you have to keep your trump cards secret, trust must be earned not given.

as for the leaving the pact for later after showing his secret......yes that was stupid of him.

The thing is even if they give him their word it wouldn't gaurentee that they woukd keep it much less get into a situation where they are forced to divulge his secrets, and some of these people are actually pretty smart and can see through his lies, but by forcing the contract on them they can't use his secret as blackmail if they do find out the truth, on top of this while it could ruin his life if he was found out then it could potential lead to a chaotic wa r to control him considering the power he posses. Then the whole leaving it for later thing isn't stupid if you think about it, first of all he doesn't know what the alter is, secondly if he didn't agree to later then he could end up with them as enemies in that situation which wouldn't be good, and thirdly if they get to the alter and no monsters are around who do you think would win in a fight between him and the princesses party

It's pretty ironic that the princess is suspecting something is not right precisely because Rei insisted on the magic contract. If he had just made them swear on oath the old-fashioned way, they wouldn't have bothered to think about it nearly so much, thinking Rei is simply an adventurer who doesn't want to draw too much political attention or the attention of some scumbag who might be directly interested in Set for any reason imaginable. However, if one of them is more dishonest or simply an agent of an opposing faction, they would naturally spill all the beans, not caring for their honour in the slightest (because their honour lies in serving their real master). So, even if they hadn't thought as much of Set's abilities, it's possible someone else who heard the tales later would.

It's not an easy question, but as long as Rei doesn't care about making enemies or distancing friendly/neutral people from him (or the story is poorly written), it doesn't really matter if he uses the contract.

C'mon everyone. Despite the MC threatening to break his contract, making a deal with their lives on the line, and pretty much acting in a scummy and despicable way that you would find in most hentai, we all know the Princess will fall in love with the PoS.
