CHESS ACCURACY PATROL
64 squares, white square in the bottom right. Everything checks out. The position on page 12 is wonky, though. The board must have been bumped against from at least one direction, probably several, knocking pieces over and displacing the white rook and knight one file to the right. Oddly, the black queen looks top heavy to the point that you'd assume it'd be the first to fall, but remains upstanding. (The white queen did fall over.) Also, the black pawns on the second rank bother me. Black's back rank is completely vacated, so I would assume everything of Black's got bumped forward by one, but that would put the pawns originally on the back rank, which is illegal. That must mean Black's pieces mostly got to where they are through natural play. Fortunately, this is consistent with the information later provided that Evans sucks tremendous amounts of balls at chess.
I kind of want to know how good Oakley actually is. I like to assume she only really knows how the pieces move, but Evans is so terrible it's obvious even to her.
