Lily of the Valley - Ch. 5

One benefit of this story churning through plot at soap opera / telenovela speeds is I worry less and less about falling into the same traps as BTD where the other writer dragged out the weakest plotlines for dozens of chapters. You have to laugh a little because its so over the top, but I do feel like there's also some moments of intentional dark comedy like the "So Filthy." line delivery/timing. Anna setting up Lily's seduction by Rose for years despite trying to do the exact opposite is also bleak comedic punchline.

As obvious as each character's different conception of love is, it is their personal toxic understanding and relationship to love and sex that prevents them from truly connecting to the one they desire. Its possible that none of them can truly give the other what they want, and there's a great potential tension in that...if the author delivers.

After five chapers, one wonders what the Lily of the Valley in the title really refers to. For anyone unfamiliar, lily of the valley is a beautiful white flower with an intoxicating smell that contains compounds toxic to the heart. Is Lily the lily of the valley? Is Rose? Is Anna? Or is it a play on the Japanese word for lily, the flower being the toxic love geometry between these three women?

I'm less interested in blaming any of the characters for what happened and much more interested in what will Anna do now.

I think Rangrarii did actually voice some dissatisfaction with the writing in BTD, maybe it was the about the pace? This one sure moves at breakneck speeds so far, I mean it has only been 5 chapters but a lot has happened.

The thing about the title is definitely a play on both using "Lily" for wlw relationships, the name of the character and the actual flower you mentioned. Maybe something along the lines of how love and desire can be both intoxicating and bad for the heart (heartbreaking)? I don't think Anna's heartbreak right now will be the only heartbreak we'll see.

No, the story is just continuing in the same direction it started. This is an NTR story, and it's diving deeper into the typical tropes associated with this genre. We see humiliation, and even Lily getting aroused by the whole situation. You've been trying to find depth that was never there.

Also I never said that I'm looking for depth? I literally called it dumb telenovela drama earlier

And the NTR tropes don't bother me, it's just a stupid smutty story. I do happen to think that Lily is just as much a victim of Rose as Anna, so that's why I don't understand why she is the most hated character in this. Like Rose deliberately manipulated both of them, and pretended to be nice and charming to fool an insecure, naive and sheltered young woman. And yet almost all I see are comments on how bad Lily is for falling for her tricks. I do think it's kind of baffling. Like last week people were calling this the worst Yuri ever made on reddit because they hated Lily so much

My first reaction to seeing this announced was "oh looks like toxic love triangle smut by the woman who did the art on BTS" and that is exactly what it is, so pretty much my expectations fulfilled. What I don't understand is people seeing the promo/cover image and then thinking that this was going to be cute or wholesome or whatever and being angry at the story. Like Rose literally has her hand around Lily's neck and it's clearly two women trying to get the attention of the one in the middle. This story is selling exactly what was advertised (except Lily looks high af in this image, maybe she'll get into drugs to cope with everything later? Who knows lmao)
