Even children play pretend by fighting and killing each other.
You can sit there and moralise it by saying it's equal to murder or whatever, but the fact of the matter is that people feel that rape tends to make things 'heavier' than it sometimes needs to be. This story wouldn't benefit from it if it said the scared girl had been raped repeatedly by the goblins.
I made the comment because often easy-going light reads such as this will take a dark turn when goblins are introduced, and suddenly entire villages of women are being raped.

Not to say that stories shouldn't ever have it or whatever, it's just a matter of tone, and sometimes it's nice not having goblins be a bunch of little rapists.
