@Naminator the emperor obviously had her tailed ever since the deal was sealed. The real question is why did he took so long to step in? The answer I think is because the emperor was testing his new fiance and how she would (1) attract unneeded attention (2) deal with gossip (3) confront an assassination attempt.

Obviously new fiance failed them all and will get scolded in 2 or 3 chapters.
