Yeah… this is a very disappointing turn of events.
As far as I can tell, she could have just had him (her dad) killed, or locked up, or just claimed he’s insane. He’s clearly been acting differently, people know this. He also had zero knowledge of who she was until right then… so he wouldn’t have had a backup plan like “if you harm me, letters with evidence will be sent out automatically” or something. This was literally her best chance to do something.
And the Emperor having killed her… ok, that’s more interesting. And a good reason as to why he’s been fascinated with her. But… it’s also not a good plot point right now. This arc has been about building up to her having to clearly communicate to her husband and child, her wedding, and getting her friend to be the head of her friend’s family. That’s… a lot of plot points for a single arc already. We don’t need useless drama about her real dad AND the Emperor in there too. That’s too much. It’s too scattered. And those plots need resolutions, yes, but they are going to need entirely different resolutions than the other current story beats.
Honestly this is quickly becoming a mess. It’s gone from interesting romance/fantasy story to bad mid-afternoon soap opera. By introducing too many story beats in a single arc, the author can’t use them later when they would be more fitting, annnd it’s muddied up the current story. All that plus the useless drama with her father and a lack of resolution on a SINGLE story beat since the series started…
I’m sticking around a little while longer, juuuust in case the author pulls a 180 and starts actually resolving storylines and moves the plot forward. But otherwise, I gotta drop this one if he doesn’t.
