I watched the film first although it seemed decent and pretty, I've always felt something was lacking and I couldn't lay a finger which exactly.
I gave a shot and read this manga as I was really unsatisfied watching the 2 hour film.
Everything makes 100% sense now and the tone of the magical castle really felt like one and something they really enjoyed like a hidden safe space. It felt a whole lot more immersive and grounded.
Characters are fleshed out as they should be unlike in the film it felt like a gaping hole and that they were still strangers by the end to each other, something really didnt feel right.
And the revelations were properly explained in the manga compared to the film which was all over the place with a weird pacing.
Overall this is definitely one of the memorable reads that I would highly recommend, unlike the film but still a good watch nevertheless.
