Well this part of the story is about the character development for Elena who is going to become a mayor character later on.
Elena is going to become his 2nd wife, next chapter is going to continue with her development.
As the thing she found at the end that made her scream was the beaten and broken bodies of their friends and family that have gone missing.
This makes her more susceptible to your mc´s charm and is where she stops acting so cold towards him.
They quickly went over that mercenary work for the Sisterhood of the sightless eye usually end up as and disposable meatshields .
But there is a bit more to it then that, for example usually mercenaries are expected to use their own equipment but Fei ( thanks to his MC powers ) can acquire a lot of magical items that he shares.
Magical items by themselfs are rare for them, and becouse of him shareing and the fact that he dont treat her as disposable is the initial reason for elena to respect/love the MC.
This is also funny enough one of the reasons Akara is overcharging him as she suspects that he have a way of getting alot of valuable items witch is later on proven to be correct.
She stops being super greedy later on thought, but she ( and most of the other characters in the rogue encampment )
Have a particular set of quirks that makes their characters a bit different from the game.
but because this is a manga im not sure about how deep they are going to explain the character's motivation and stuff as that takes up alot of extra pages.
