I participated in PBP 2023. I found it incredibly tough but it had the most incredible atmosphere I've ever experienced with crowds of locals on the side of the roads cheering at you at all hours of the day and night.

Edit: The Shiminami Kaido is a great route, that citrus daifuku place is a wonderful stop just a couple of minutes off the beaten path. Can't wait to do it again sometime!
