After reading Sayonara, Eri (another tragedy oneshot by the same author) I thought this was gonna be another bizarre experience that would make me think hard about its actual meaning, far more than thinking about the tragedy of the story. But no. This was a tragedy pure and simple, no two ways about it. It's straightforward, doesn't beat around the bush, doesn't try to misdirect the reader in any way, nor build up any particular drama, but despite that (or probably because of it) the tragedy just hits that much harder. It's not a feint, feint, and then a final punch you don't expect that leaves you more shocked than hurt, just a straight slug to the gut that makes you double over. That's not a fantastic way to put it, but I'm having a difficult time trying to describe it. Either way. It's very good, 10/10, read it. Gives me more motivation to practice my own art.
