okay, so I'll start.
are there any classic style rpg (think, classic final fantasy style battle system, or something like rpgmaker) about mechs or that have mechs as the central character/focus in gameplay ?

it's a thought I've had since like, yesterday and from what I've seen, nothing I know of, really comes close.
I'm thinking of a classic, character and level based progression with customization of equipment.
closest I've seen, where squad based/units based, where you didn't gain level ups.

There's an old GBA game called Zoids Legacy, which has classic JRPG elements, and you can build mechs too. You can also add additional weapons to mechs in your party, too.

If you like turn-based strategy, there's the Super Robot Wars series.

Deleted. I think NotGary got banned again since you can't see the conversation feature on his profile.

But this time the profile is visible, I remember when Richman told to @Purpleboi that "he may lose his ability to post at all", maybe it's a way to be able to keep using the account for the main site (you know, to read manga and keep track of it).

That sounds like an interesting concept! While there are many RPGs with mech elements, most lean towards action or strategy rather than classic turn-based systems. One game that might come close is Front Mission, which features tactical mech battles, though it’s more strategy-focused. Another option could be Super Robot Wars, which combines RPG elements with mechs but has its own unique mechanics. It would be great to see a classic-style RPG that emphasizes character progression and customization in a mech setting!
