I want recommendations for mangas that aren't boys love that has some casual gay characterand, that it is not a manga entirely about LGBT issues

Like Hoshino, me o tsubutte or Mirai Nikki, mangas that happen to have a gay character

Can be any genre of manga or manhwa, except bl

Preferably not very well-known mangas, because I already know most of the well-known ones

I'm pretty sure that Shimanami Tasogare is basically still an LGBT-themed story, no?

With Hoshino, yeah, it's just happen to have a gay character mixed in the story.
I guess you're looking for something like the currently aired Kowloon and the old Koi to Uso?
That you still want a story around it, and not just simply mentioned "oh, he's a gay" and that's it

Let's see...
how about Yuria-sensei no Akai Ito?
Sensitive Boy starts off with a non LGBT plot
I think Watashi wa Kabe ni Naritai is in the same vibe as Shimanami
Does Homunculus counts as well-known?

maybe it wasn't very clear from the way I wrote it (English isn't my first language) but Shimanami Tasogare was supposed to be an example of what I don't want And yes, what I wanted was something like Kowloon and Koi to Uso, stories that aren't focused on LGBT but happen to have a gay character

hmm ok,
Yuria, Sensitive Boy, and Homunculus are still in the ballpark, I guess
there's also Yankee-kun

I vaguely remember scenes in a fantasy setting, where a guard/knight protects a prince or something because he's secretly in love with the prince. Or the prince who doesn't want to get married.
Or an action manga where a guy jumps in to save another guy, and then later it's revealed that they love each other
or something like that.
But they're too minor for me to really remember and pinpoint...

Sometimes it is not even stated explicitly, only implied.
Like in Cardcaptor sakura or Witch Spells Doom

Thanks for the recommendations 👍
But what a shame that you don't remember the name of the mangas that you mentioned some excerpts from, they seem interesting

CLAMP has a lot of LGTB characters in their manga. And I mean actual "I love this person of the same sex" and not queerbaiting. The problem is they are THE QUEENS of Hiatus. They have so many hiatus series I'm actually resenting them a little now despite them being my favourite group for a long time. RG Veda (I read this series when I was five and was a bit confused why the guys and the girls love each others instead of the usual boy-girl pair lol), Magic Knight Rayearth, Tokyo Babylon, X1999 (Hiatus), Card Captor Sakura, Drug and Drop (Hiatus), etc.

The summer Hikaru dies, Skip and loafers, Blue flag too are currently the ones I can remember. But these series are probably too well-known.

Edit: "Make the exorcist fall in love" also has an established gay couple but might also fall under well-known territory.

There are some very old series (1970s>1990s) that were illegal published in my country that fit your criteria but I know they don't have English version and you can't even find the raw online (I tried, even used manga market either don't have them or so expensive it's not worth it to buy) so that's unfortunate...

(I know this doesn't fufill your request for actually gay characters, but from the looks of it you are looking for more subtle-vibes and less in your face BL)

How about casually not-gay characters, (but you do wonder 🤔) but the author says it's just ✨Deep Camaraderie✨ in a definitely feels like BL but the author insists it isn't BL manga? Aka you get the vibes from interactions with the main characters, but also the typical exploration and world-building of adventurer fantasy manga.

A Gentle Noble's Vacation Recommendation
btw you can find more chapters at a certain starts with a balto (minus the l) and ends with an toe (minus the e) manga website (idk if we are allowed to talk about other websites in specifics or link it)

Thank you! But what I'm looking for is canonically gay characters, not ones that give off gay vibes

i would suggest 'my brothers husband' but i imagine you'd already read that before , there might be older series that have gay charas as a side/stereotypical joke/comic relief but other than a side chara, even if it's no romance i wouldn't say ppl treat lgbt issues in jp too 'casually'

there might be some ace mangas tho

Although most of the ones with gay characters are not a very good representation, there are still some with a good representation, that's why I'm making this post, to find some recommendations for this.

Is the gay couple in No, You Na a female or male couple?
male couple.
They were introduced briefly very early.
But because the artstyle is very androgynous, and it only shows the head of the other partner, I didn't notice it at all.
Only much later on when their daughter clarifies "that's my dad" then I realized
