It seems they were a trio. So my assumption for why Nagisa keeps interrupting Yuya is that Nagisa is trying to protect Ame who likes Azusa and Azusa might like Ame but is a wimp and easily gives up at the first opportunity? Maybe Nagisa might like Ame and is jealous of him, might as well throw that bone in there why not?
