@Lilliwyt Well, that's basically how dagashi work. They're candy made so children will be able will be able to purchase with their own pocket money, hence why they're so cheap.
We also used to have candies for R$0,50 20 years ago, but socialism happened and now they cost a fortune...
I remember the days of 1 cent candies in Canada. Could get a nice bag full of little peach candy for a buck. Now a days, just a chocolate bar cost almost 2 dollars.
Bear in mind that the yen was begun as a dollar coin (their cent was a sen and their mil was a rin). The Japanese state undermined their money much as did the states of other nations.
Still it remains true that candy is more expensive in our nations. 😠
