The girl on ch. 1 was not the real girl but her own replica. The real girl made a replica of herself with the intention so that it would confess in her stead; but because it was her own replica, it just couldn't do so since in the end it was just her own self. Also, because it was her own self; the replica did the same thing (couldn't confess) and ended up with the book too but this time instead of making her own replica, she made a replica of the boy and thus the story goes.

I didn't expect the happy end too since I thought there should be a bad karma for killing the cat/cats (?)

im also surprised by this happy ending because not only were two cats killed, but the presentation of this comic is very eerie. it gives me the heebie-jeebies.

honestly i wouldn't be surprised if like... it turned out that the replicas ended up killing the original girl or something??? that would fit the tone of the art and storytelling much better than this surprise happy ending (which didn't even address what would happen to the replicas)
