@stressedcoffee I think there is more to it than meets the eye. Seems like she is worried about the king getting too attached to Nina due to potential complications down the road for both the king and Nina. In truth, I think she likes Nina, but just as how the king says the Saintess comes first(meaning he'd leave Nina to die if he had to choose between the two), so too does the king come before Nina for the head maid(she's the head maid, yes? Can't remember.). If anything, it could be that the head maid doesn't want to have the need to deal with Nina, and if the king doesn't become close to her then Nina can just stay in her little corner where it's safe while being cared for. Becoming special to someone as powerful as the king means that Nina will become a target since she will be seen as a potential weakness of the king, and even worse if it turns out that Nina is indeed a spy and intends harm upon the king, then it'll be that much harder on everyone that got close to Nina(such as the king and the head maid) when she needs to be dealt with. Betrayal and heartbreak are very similar to each other, and to experience both might very well be a fate worse than death.

Yh that's totally understandable but tbh we haven't seen much of his true personality/backstory. Also it might be different after the time skip where the power dynamics will be a bit different.
