I tried reading on Kaiscans' website.
The next day, the sites images weren't loading! Then a few hours after, the website was down with the domain being referred as "Luascans" instead of Kaiscans. Is something going on here?
I figured Kaiscans got in trouble because they posted pages with the Tapas watermark at the end of each chapter, but there were other watermarks as well- even from different groups!
I know theres a rumor (and deleted proof) that Luascans steal other groups' translations, but are they also masquerading as other Scan Groups??
Yesterday luascans's website pointed to kai scans, today kai-scans redirects to lua scans which is now using kai scan's disqus. Whatever is involved it's not "masquerading", both groups seem clearly involved... somehow?
I remember Kai had a merger or something similar with some other group a while back, but I don't remember if it was Lua.
Edit: I'm not sure whether this was my error or whether some domain shuffling happened, but it appears the
actual Lua Scans is presently at luacomic
.net (whereas Kai Scans... or whoever the hell they are that's running an increasingly-sloppy aggregate site, it's so bad it's got rips of official english translations of spanish comics from Webtoon and then labels them 'Korean'... anyway,
that whole distaster is at the old domain, luascans
.com)
Edit 2: Old links on luacomics.net disqus discussions (i.e. on the real translators' site) still point to luscans.com (the old domain) which redirect to luacomics.com (the scam domain). So, pay attention where you're ending up if you happen to use Disqus directly. Holy moly, whatever happened, it's a mess! It stinks to me of bad faith action by people, rather than hacks. It could just be something like that scanlator lapsed their domain-name registration temporarily and a predatory actor pounced, or it could be some more sordid drama, I don't know.
