I wonder if the series will touch on why Japan turned into a fantasy RPG.

I know I'm nitpicking but if this is post-modern japan then how did they fail to survive against goblins and ogres with grenades, rifles, shotguns, missiles, tanks and all that shit? Surely a SPAS-12 is more effective than a piece of sharp iron.

@dkdumpling There were stronger monsters too? Probably things that were resistant to whatever humans were throwing at them without having leveled up their classes enough and perhaps using specific materials for weapons or ammunition (the inclusion of "classes" at all could be incredibly important, in ways like warriors only getting their damage bonuses using blades and such, for instance, and that bonus might be the difference between penetrating a monster's hide or not). Disrupt society enough, and you get a nice little post apocalyptic time period where the amount of those particular objects only dwindles from then on, until they run out or end up as long lost "artifacts." Once survivors finally get the hang of their new found classes, you get the root of where this is now.

@Glomoro i know that there would have been more powerful monsters but then if goblins can only be hurt by specific classes or weapons then that means some kind of system is managing to absorb the impact of guns and explosives and convert that energy away from the goblins somehow. That just opens up a new avenue for gods controlling their world's physics and matter. Idk it just seemed kind of lazy for the writer to not explain some stuff and leave it so insanely vague, good series tho.

@dkdumpling I mean, they used to just be modern Japan. Now they have video game classes, stats, and loot systems dictating their entire lives. It was already 100% some sort of divine intervention or some Matrix type of thing. I agree it'd be a lot better if the author explained all of this stuff rather than leave it to our speculation, but that might still be coming down the line. It seems like certain aspects of the setting being revealed are kind of the main plot point here.
