That said I could be completely off the mark and bexause of Machida's advice she gets back with a terrible cheating boyfriend and has a miserable life.

I interpreted his advice as suggesting she's not over with him yet. In other words, she left him before she really wanted to leave him. That is, she left him while she still genuinely loved him, which is quite contradictory, although not unrealistic because humans are flawed creatures that can keep loving total monsters till the bitter end. But assuming she's not mentally ill, she could just stay with him until her love runs out for real, witnessing his bad sides. Then she could leave with no lingering emotions whatsoever, never looking back. She would be free to seek new love, without anything in her past bothering her.

Of course there's also the remote possibility the cheating dude would turn a new leaf.

Yeah, this one ain't it chief... I'm a big believer that "time heals the wounds of a heart", so no matter how obsessed or heartbroken you are by someone, eventually it'll stop hurting as much
It's funny because "time heals all wounds" was exactly what I interpreted "it's fine to love them until you hate them" to mean. I don't think Machida was suggesting she get back with the guy, simply pointing out that she broke up with the guy when she still has feelings for him and she needs to deal with those feelings before jumping into a new relationship with the first guy who shows her kindness. How she chooses to deal with those feelings is up to her

Everybody in the comments is arguing over the advice Machida gave Sakura but no one is enjoying the wholesomeness that is Inohara getting more friendly with her classmates.

I would never advise a girl to go back to their cheating ex, but its interesting how machida said its ok to love them until you hate them...I would have thought its too wasteful to spare any love and hate on another person that do not even look at you.
You might be right but it's also valid to go full liberal and let yourself love and hate as much as you think you need.

In my opinion this is matter of what philosophy you choose to live by.

Maybe this chapter is not about the love advice and its outcomes but about the support from others and their interactions.
