Thanks for translating.

Hmm it was entertaining but not entertaining enough for me to bother seeking out the official version.

Respect for stopping when the author asked you to.
@TrueGoddessReincarnation
Do they not know manga does better when you can read it online rather than it dying out of obscurity?
The author gains nothing (and even loses potential readers that simply happen to know English) by you being able to read it online for free.
@Nick86
if people can't read scans anymore they will go en masse to buy the japanese volumes
Not en masse, but there will be certainly more people buying it.

@criver - People don't buy what they do not understand, is common sense, unless you know japanese language indeed. I'm speaking about us foreigners where the manga isn't available of course, the author loss or gain nothing over here so is just a lost battle.

@Nick86 You do realize some Japanese can in fact read English right? Also in case it ever gets licensed in English, the probability of people buying the first chapters after they are already available drops. The question is whether it drops more than the hypothetical gain over popularizing it. Seems like the author (or his editor or publisher) believes it does significantly for him to request that this stops.

@criver - Indeed are all speculations and the author have the rights to ask the scans to stop, but there is no evidence that he/she lose money, you have a point about japanese readers who read english but how much of them know really english and use scans? Without any real data is very difficult to say for sure.
Lots of people who live outside us, where the manga isn't available, will never buy it because the price is not worth cause import taxes, if we can't read it for free then there is no point at all and is not a big loss in the end. Majority of people read manga as a time killer, real collectors will eventually buy the phisycal original copy anyway.

Moreover lots of publisher release the manga online free for everyone with ads and only after they merge all the chapter into tonkobons for paper collectors, i think is the way to go to please everyone.

@criver I bought the amazon version (as well as other manga in physical form) because of "piracy". There is honestly no way I would have taken this a second look( or found it at all really) otherwise.

"You do realize some Japanese can in fact read English right?"

Its far easier to find Japanese raws of a manga (at least in my experience) than a English translated one, so that point might be kinda of moot.

@criver @PsychoJing Hmm, you both have a point, I've only ever bought subsequent volumes from English publishers(on Amazon) after reading scans somewhere else, for example, I've bought volumes 2-4 of Maou no Hajimekata and have the 5th pre-ordered, and I'm definitely gonna buy this and subsequent volumes if it's being published in English, but I don't think I've ever bought a volume 1 of something before.

Then it's safe to err on the side of the belief of the author/whoever pays his salary. Even if there was data indicating the opposite, it is something the author created, so his words should be considered first, especially taking into account that scanlating is fairly close to stealing.

@PsychoJing Yeah I think you are right about the Japanese raws, not only are they easier to find but they cover a lot more manga. I am assuming the author asked this to be stopped under pressure from his publisher, though it us possible that he himself might have had something in mind. Still I believe that the right choice is respecting the author's request.

@gaigous
Even then you can't say for sure whether you would have bought any volumes unless you read the pirated first ones, so it's not definitive whether it's a net plus or minus for the publisher. It's also irrelevant what one person does, it's the statistic on average that matters. There may well be such a statistic but I am not aware of it.

page 5 : " i will see you at school ... " . she forgot that their school was destroyed .

in this comment section , someone complains about the import fees for manga-s . then just buy the digital kindle versions , they are cheaper , tax-free and transferred instantly .

if you read/watch and enjoy some manga/anime/comics/cartoon/movie for free , then at least support the creators/makers in some ways . if you can not support , then at least do not go around saying something like :
" fuk the authors " ,

" i will pirate the sh!ts out of your hard works and enjoy them for free, ha ha ha ha " ,

" sob sob . because im so poor , and the authors 's manga-s are so expensive , so it is the authors 's fault that i pirate their manga-s . sniff sniff . "

The author has heard of people wanting an official English version, so s/he worked that out.

I think it's evident that a good majority of people would choose to save their money if they can get it for free online, someway, somehow. I think the only real benefit of scanlations, at least in the very beginning, is that people may share it with lots of others. After it's popular "enough" (undetermined), further scanlations likely hurt the sales more than it helps. The reason I believe this is that I do feel that a majority of people would rather avoid spending money if they can. It's just natural - people just inherently don't want to spend money they would rather save/use for something else.

@criver I freely admit to that in my reply, and I'm insulted that you felt the need to tell me that second part since we agree every time this topic comes up :p

@mrguest I like the suggestion, I think I might try it out. Especially since it has a lot of sound FX and stuff that haven't been done so I'd have something to learn on how to do those (starting with how to read the fucking things, lol) I wish there were more chapters but it's a start! Edit: if I really want to learn to read the sound FX it seems like 10 chapters will be more than enough to keep me occupied for a while>_>
