I have very mixed feelings about this arc. On one hand it is quite funny, but I really hate
brainwashing/mind altering plots. I actually feel Momo's pain in these chapters and didn't like how Shamiko gets taken away.
.
Riko (Like heck I'll call her "Lico") is super cute and funny though. Shirozawa is probably the most well behaved person in the story (even if his introduction doesn't display that). I never knew what Tapirs looked like before reading this manga lol

Well done Shamiko, you understood it wouldn't be easy extracting information from the two, so you are infultrating their base, slowly gaining their trust, and at the same time scoping out the customers who may lead you to more demons.

Bravo, I'm sure that was your true purpose, not the all you can eat delicious food cooked by the fox? girl.

Of course SataAnri knows where the demons are.

I wonder why they have chinese names though, this isn't the first time chinese mythology appears instead of japanese. Riko could easily be a kitsune instead of a Huli jing.

I have a feeling we're heading into the first real Momo/Shamiko conflict.

I hope we're not heading into the first serious arc.

@KZO She is a huli jing though, there are aspects to those that don't apply to kitsune. The short version is that huli jing are very much malevolent beings whereas kitsune it varies. In China "huli jing" is actually considered a bit of a sexist slur, referring to a woman who is manipulative homewrecker.

This demon fox is one to keep a close eye on.

("Lico" is the romanization preferred by the mangaka, I believe. I'm not 100% sure but I remember seeing it somewhere.)

Finally the (Chinese as it turns out) fox-girl.

And a cool tapir... short and getting hurt doing a backflip, was he working as tama-sakura chan? (in addition to the coffee house?)

It should be interesting to note that the tapir (more precisely the baku) is a mythological being that eats nightmares, which could make him a natural enemy for Shamiko... if he wasn't such a chill guy anyway. (Though who knows?... maybe he intends to fatten her up first)

But Shamiko sure gets pulled around easily, being such a pure girl. Then again it should work for the best to first gain their confidence before getting info. The tapir should know something anyway due to the plot being an adult and thus likely to have interacted with Sakura (while having a well preserved charm of his shop)

BTW, "Whatever staff" sure fits well when used like that, it really doesn't need another name. 😆

@MidnighTea -

Food addiction is a wicked spell, especially to a hungry girl like Shamiko.

Except for Lilith, who is in tune with her, Shamiko has never actually interacted with demons. She doesn't completely understand that demons act like...demons.

Let's see how Momo handles this seduction.

Shamiko with her hair up looks really cute. A bit different from her usual charm, but exactly because of that its nice.

The huli jing is also kind of the Chinese equivalent to a succubus, which makes her potential friendship with Shamiko kinda funny.

I guess the typesetter(s) decided to go with Lico. But yeah, she's not a bad person. She's truly amoral. She has no concept of "good" or "bad". Of course, like everyone else in the manga, she's a big dork, but she doesn't have any evil intent towards anyone. You get a bit more information on her as the story progresses and also from the prologue to Vol 4 in the character summaries that are always at the beginning of each volume.

@Ichigo69 Oh, I wasn't trying to imply Lico herself is malevolent. But it is important to note huli jing aren't kitsune -- they are never a good thing in Chinese folklore. Similarly, Korea has a fox monster of its own called the "gumiho" who is most similar to a vampire and is often portrayed as a tragic monster in a similar vein.

Something I've noticed about this series is that it likes to tease extremely dark things or dark possibilities only to walk it back and make it surprisingly super cute. Like a reverse version of Madoka episode 3. I don't doubt Lico will be an amazing addition to the cast.

@BugDemon @Ichigo69 @MidnighTea The author provides a character bio in volume 5 where she is called Lico. And honestly I prefer Riko as well but i will call her Lico; that is what the author originally wanted.
